A good start is half the battle and so it was at Labasheeda today when Kilmihil met Kildysart in the first round of the Championship. Martin O'Leary kicked the first point after four minutes and David Ryan added another after ten minutes. Kilmihil dominated the game and by half time the scoreboard read: Kilmihil 0-09 Kildysart 0-03. Some of us might have been expecting the lads to coast through the second half when Martin O'Leary tapped over a free just after the resumption but Kildysart had other ideas and fought their way back into the game. The half was fragmented with a lot of stoppages and our second half performance did not match up to that of the first half. Kildysart got a grip at midfield and reduced the margin to two with just a few minutes remaining. Kilmihil finally broke down the field and two points in quick succession secured victory on the score of 0-14 to 0-10. Team Lineout: Keith Considine, Conor Crowley, Allyn Dalton, David Coughlan, Stan Lineen, Anthony Downes (Capt.), Colm Callinan, David Ryan, Niall Pender, Declan Downes, Timmy Ryan, Mark Coughlan, Shane Egan, Martin O'Leary & David Egan. Scorers: Martin O'Leary 0-4, Declan Downes 0-3, Shane Egan & David Egan 0-2 each, & 0-1 each from David Ryan, David Coughlan & Colm Callinan. Subs: Laurence Murray for Conor Crowley, Conor O'Flaherty for Timmy Ryan & Conor Egan for Colm Callinan.

Kilmihil got off to a good start and the first attack led to a penalty after 3 minutes and Daniel Blake calmly slotted it past the Cusack's keeper. The exchanges were even for the rest of the first half. Half time Score: Kilmihil 1-3 Michaels Cusacks 0-4. Colm Callinan got the opening score of the second half but Cusacks began to get a grip at mid field and kicked over 3 points in quick succession to leave the sides level after six minutes. The mentors were quick to react and brought Daniel Blake to midfield and this proved to be a match winning move. David Killeen scored his first goal and Daniel Blake followed with two excellent points. However Cusacks replied with a well taken goal midway through the half but this proved to be their last score as Kilmihil completely dominated the final quarter scoring 3-6 without reply to leave the final score: Kilmihil 5-12 Michael Cusacks 1-7. Scorers: Daniel Blake 1-5, Colm Callinan 2-1, David Killeen 2-0, Eoin Callinan & Shane O'Connor 0-2 each, David Coughlan & Dylan O'Sullivan 0-1 each.
